AmazonBasics Mid-Back Mesh Chair Review: Affordable Office Chair

AmazonBasics-Mid-Back-Mesh-ChairAs you probably already know, most office chairs are often made in the same fashion. Although they come from a variety of brands, there’s one in particular that makes them a bit cheaper when compared to their competitors – AmazonBasics.

I made this review because there’s a lot of completely conflicting opinions regarding this “brand” – some people don’t like Amazon’s sub-brand, others like the fact that they made high-quality products and don’t overprice them, but that’s not what this is about.

We’ll be talking about the benefits you could take advantage of if you choose AmazonBasics mid-back mesh chair, we’ll talk a bit about the brand itself, and evaluate the different spheres of performance of this particular model.

A foreword about Amazon Basics

It’s not uncommon that gigantic names such as “Amazon” expand onto new borders – they went on from being mediators between brands and buyers to becoming a brand in itself. Generally, I understand there’s a lot of doubt regarding such a massive twist of events, but, in essence, AmazonBasics is just like any other brand.

Even though they make all kinds of products, given that their catalogue of goods includes everything from plain Apple accessories to high-end kitchen sets, they boast a wide variety of entry-level office chairs as well.

All in all, AmazonBasics is the brand for people who don’t want to spend too much but still want to get a high-quality product in the end. Their products are a bit harder to find (I presume because they didn’t feel too inclined on marketing their models aggressively), but they’re surely valuable for the cash.

Performance evaluation

This section is dedicated to explaining every piece of information regarding AmazonBasics mid-back mesh chair. We’ll have a quick rundown of its most notable features, we’ll check its durability rating, and we’ll take a gander at the potential pros and cons.

You’ll notice that AmazonBasics mid-back mesh chair isn’t a standard entry-level office mesh chair. It “borrowed” some of the finest features from high-end models, although the materials used in the construction process aren’t exactly top-shelf. Regardless, you’ll be able to pass on the final verdict yourself after reading through this chapter.

Comfortability – what can this chair offer in terms of comfort?

First of all, this is an entry-level chair. It can’t even begin to compare with higher-end models, but I must say, it’s pretty comfortable, all things considered. It’s made of mesh materials – I happen to like mesh more than leather and fabric materials, as it offers a great balance between comfort and durability.

On top of that, most high-quality office chairs are made of this material. Mesh tends to be superiorly breathable, as it prevents rapid body heat buildup, making it great for people who work in poorly ventilated areas. This particular model comes with contoured mesh back – this feature is, perhaps, the best when compared to the rest of the construction, as it boasts ergonomic qualities.

Overall, I really liked how this chair feels when I sat in it. After sifting through numerous reviews, it was made clear to me that I wasn’t the only one – most people like the comfortability of this chair, and happen to favor this quality above others.

Overall comfort rating – 4.5/5

This chair was clearly built for office workers who work long hours. It features a comfortable, breathable mesh back, thus the high rating. The only thing that “deduced” half of the point was the slim seat which appears to be a bit flimsy. Even though this should be explained in more detail in the “durability” section, it had a heavy impact on the overall comfortability.

Design – how it looks like

AmazonBasics Mid-Back mesh chair features a medium-tall back design. It was made for people of average height, office workers in particular.

When we take a look at the mesh back, we can easily and safely deduce that it was built for comfort rather than durability. The seat is definitely too slim, hence I can say that people who weigh a bit above the average should consider another model.

On the other hand, the supports are quite great, and the comfort rating is nearly impeccable. That led me to conclusion that this chair is well-built, quite comfortable, and ideal for average-height office workers.

It doesn’t excel in aesthetics, however, as it looks a bit plain. That shouldn’t be the problem, though, as most office chairs lack in this department.

Overall design rating – 4.0/5

I really liked the design of AmazonBasics Mid-Back Mesh chair. However, it’s not exactly “beautiful”, per se, and it looks just too plain for my taste. Regardless, it’s certainly well-built, and deserves a high design rating.

Durability – well-built, cheap, but sturdy

Mesh is, generally, decently durable, regardless of the particular material used in the construction process. Even though it gives a modest boost to the overall comfortability, it’s somewhat less durable than fabric.

Anyhow, AmazonBasics Mid-Back Mesh chair can be considered as durable, as it features a stable base and high-quality rolling casters. The rest of the construction is not adjustable, but the features it comes outfitted with are quite durable.

Overall durability rating – 4.5/5

Considering that this office chair was made of relatively durable materials, it can certainly withstand quite a punishment. The only reason why I deducted a point from its overall durability rating is because it can’t support a heavy person without risking breaking.

Supportive strength – who is it for?

This office chair was clearly built for people of average weight and height. The mid-back design backs up this claim, but so does the 225 pounds of supportive strength. There are chairs, even recliners who can do nearly twice as better in this field of performance, but that doesn’t have much of an impact on the overall performance.

Supportive strength rating – 4.8/5

Knowing that this is an entry-level office chairs, being able to support up to 225 pounds is, well, just a bit better as per industrial standards. Even though it’s not much, the supportive strength of this chair can be characterized as “above average”.

Price – is it valuable for the cash?

One of the greatest benefits you could take advantage of regarding the purchase of this chair is affordability. Namely, it belongs to the “budget” price point category, which means that it’s ridiculously cheap. Considering all other aspects of performance, I can safely conclude that AmazonBasics Mid-Back mesh chair is more than just valuable for the cash.

Price rating – 5/5

Being cheap is one thing, but being able to meet your demands without asking for a fortune in return is just another way to spell “valuable” in my book.

Pros

  • Decently durable.
  • Exceptionally affordable.
  • Outstanding comfort rating.
  • High-quality features.
  • Moderate supportive strength.
  • Durable dual-wheel casters.

Cons

  • Non-adjustable supports.
  • Looks too plain.

The final verdict

All things considered, AmazonBasics Mid-back mesh chair is among the finest entry-level office chairs on the market. Even though it’s plain in nature, I spent hours evaluating every last bit of its performance, and came to the conclusion that it’s highly valuable for the cash.

The price is more than right, the supports are adequate (to say the least), the features it comes outfitted with are top-shelf, even though they might be a bit too straightforward for everyone. Anyhow, there’s a plethora of things to like, and just a handful of them you might not like as much.
